This page explains what personal information Yorkshire Electricians Ltd collects, why we collect it, who we share it with and what your rights are. We have kept it in plain English on purpose. If anything is unclear, email us and we will explain.

Who we are

Yorkshire Electricians Ltd is a company registered in England and Wales, company number 11380755. Our office is at Office 21, Concept Business Centre, Kettlestring Lane, York, YO30 4XF. We are the "data controller" for the information described on this page.

For anything to do with your personal data, contact us at office@yorkshire-electricians.co.uk or on 01904 373045.

What we collect and why

When you get in touch

If you enquire online, message us on WhatsApp, email or call us, we collect your name, address, phone number, email address and the details of the work you need. We use this to reply, to quote and to book the job. Without it we cannot help you.

When we carry out work for you

We keep a record of the job: notes, quotes, invoices, test results and certificates (for example an Electrical Installation Condition Report or an installation certificate), and photographs of the electrical installation and the areas we work in. We need these to do the work properly, to give you copies of certificates later, to honour our guarantees and to meet our legal duties as a registered electrical contractor. Some work must by law be notified to Building Control through our competent person scheme, which means passing on the property address and the details of the work.

We keep payment records so we can account for what you have paid. We do not store card numbers; card payments are handled by our payment provider.

Photographs

Job photographs are part of the job record. We only publish a photo of work at your property on our website or social media if you have agreed to it, and we never show anything that identifies you or your address without asking first.

Vehicle dashcams

Our vans have dashcams that record the road for the safety of our staff and for insurance purposes. Footage is kept for a short period and overwritten, unless it is needed for an incident or an insurance claim.

Keeping in touch afterwards

If you have been a customer, we may occasionally email or text you about our services, for example to remind you when a safety inspection is due or to let you know about an offer. You can stop this at any time by replying, by using the unsubscribe link, or by emailing us. We do not send marketing to people who have not been customers unless they have asked for it.

Reviews

If you leave a review on Google, Checkatrade or Facebook, it is public on that platform. We display those public reviews on our website through a reviews service (Trustindex).

The legal basis we rely on

  • Contract: quoting for and carrying out your work, and dealing with your enquiry.
  • Legal obligation: keeping certificates, safety records, Building Control notifications and tax and accounting records.
  • Legitimate interests: keeping job records and photographs, contacting existing customers about our services, protecting our staff and vehicles, and running our business. You can object to any of this, see "Your rights" below.
  • Consent: advertising cookies on this website and any marketing to people who have not been customers. You can withdraw consent at any time.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your information. We share it only with the services and people we need to run the business and do your job:

Some of these providers store data outside the UK (for example in the EU, the USA or Australia). Where they do, we rely on the UK's adequacy decisions or the standard contractual safeguards required by UK data protection law.

How long we keep it

We keep customer and job records for the lifetime of the electrical installation, which can be twenty years or more. There is a practical reason for this: when we come back to a property years later, having the previous test results, certificates, plans and photographs means we can work from what was actually done rather than starting from scratch, which is safer and cheaper for you. It also lets us give you copies of certificates, honour our guarantees and meet our legal, safety and tax obligations.

If you ask us to delete your records we will, unless the law requires us to keep them, and we will explain if so. Dashcam footage is kept only for a short period unless it is needed for an incident.

Cookies and this website

When you first visit we ask whether you accept advertising cookies. Your choice is stored in your browser so we do not ask again. Specifically:

  • Essential: your cookie choice, stored in your browser. Nothing else is needed for the site to work.
  • Advertising measurement (only if you accept): a Google Ads tag that tells us when a visit from one of our adverts leads to an enquiry. If you decline, it never loads.
  • Third-party content: the reviews widget (Trustindex) and any embedded YouTube video may set their own cookies when they load. Their privacy policies apply to those.

Our website is hosted on Railway and served over an encrypted connection. Standard server logs (IP address, pages requested, browser type) are kept briefly for security and troubleshooting.

How we protect it

Our systems are password protected with access limited to the people who need it. Certificates and job records are stored in secure, reputable systems rather than on loose paperwork. If we ever discovered a breach that put you at risk we would tell you and the Information Commissioner's Office.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:

  • tell you what information we hold about you and give you a copy;
  • correct anything that is wrong;
  • delete information we no longer need to keep (we may have to keep certificates and accounting records for legal reasons, and we will explain if so);
  • stop or restrict how we use it, including stopping any marketing;
  • give you your information in a portable form;
  • withdraw any consent you have given.

Email office@yorkshire-electricians.co.uk and we will respond within one month. There is no charge. If you are not happy with how we handle your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113, though we would rather you spoke to us first so we can put it right.

Children

Our services and this website are aimed at adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we use your information we will update this page and the date at the top.
